Bridges to Belonging: Understanding & Supporting our LGBTQIA+ Colleagues


Course Overview:

This comprehensive six-session course is meticulously designed to provide participants with a deep and multifaceted understanding of LGBTQIA+ issues within professional settings. With a focus on fostering an inclusive, respectful, and supportive workplace culture, this course aims to empower individuals and organizations to become catalysts for positive change. By delving into terminology, historical contexts, biases, and proactive strategies, participants will acquire the knowledge and tools necessary to create a truly welcoming environment for all individuals, irrespective of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression.

Course Objectives:

  • Building Foundations of Understanding: The course embarks upon a journey through the rich tapestry of LGBTQIA+ terminology, historical perspectives, and the identification and mitigation of unconscious biases. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the diverse spectrum within the LGBTQIA+ community, establishing a solid foundation for respectful and informed interactions.
  • Creating Inclusive Spaces: Focusing on practical approaches, participants will explore effective strategies for crafting inclusive spaces within the workplace. This includes creating a welcoming atmosphere and developing support structures that positively impact the mental health and well-being of LGBTQIA+ employees. Discussions will delve into the importance of empathy, active listening, and understanding diverse experiences to foster an environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
  • Addressing Bias and Discrimination: Recognizing and addressing bias and discrimination is crucial. Through this course, participants will learn to identify, respond to, and prevent harassment and discrimination faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals in professional settings.
  • Leadership and Organizational Change: A significant aspect of this course involves understanding the role of leadership in effecting organizational change. Participants will develop skills to promote inclusive leadership, advocate for diversity, and spearhead initiatives that support ongoing education and support within their organizations. Emphasis will be placed on creating a culture of continuous learning, acceptance, and support for all employees.


The virtual course employs a multifaceted approach that combines interactive lectures, multimedia presentations and group discussions. Expert facilitators will guide participants through engaging sessions,

providing real-world examples and scenarios that encourage critical thinking and application of concepts in diverse workplace scenarios.
