The Leadership Advantage In-Person 4-day seminar is a comprehensive program designed to equip government professionals with the essential skills and strategies necessary for effective leadership in the public sector. The course is divided into three key components, each focusing on a critical aspect of leadership: Influence and Negotiation Skills, Mastering Change, and The Art of Decision Making. Participants will engage in interactive sessions, practical exercises, and case studies to develop a robust skill set aligned with the Executive Core Qualifications (ECQ) defined by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). 

Influence and Negotiation Skills: Leveraging Influence Styles for Positive Outcomes 

This specialized two-day course is meticulously designed to equip government professionals with indispensable skills and strategies to excel in negotiation scenarios within the public sector. By integrating the Influence Style Indicator (ISI) and comprehensive negotiation methodologies, participants will gain valuable insights into their negotiation styles and learn to navigate the complexities of government negotiations effectively. 

Objectives: 

  • Explore unique influence approaches, leveraging strengths and addressing potential blind spots. 
  • Grasp concepts such as collaborative negotiation, consensus-building, and coalition formation to manage multi-stakeholder negotiations. 
  • Hone communication skills with a focus on active listening and persuasive communication and develop the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders. 

Mastering Change: Utilizing the 3Ps to Drive Organizational Change 

This one-day session is designed to equip government professionals with essential skills for leading and implementing change using the 3Ps framework: Process, People, and Personal. Participants will explore common reasons for resistance to change and learn practical strategies for effective implementation. The session covers John P. Kotter’s 8-Step Process for Leading Change and Dr. William Bridges’ Transition Model. Additionally, the Change Style Indicator (CSI) will help participants identify their preferred change style and learn to collaborate effectively with diverse styles throughout the change process. 

Objectives: 

  • Explain the 3Ps of Change—Process, People, and Personal—and apply this framework to lead and implement change initiatives effectively. 
  • Identify common reasons for resistance to change and develop strategies to address and overcome these barriers. 
  • Gain proficiency in Kotter’s 8-Step Process for Leading Change and Bridges’ Transition Model, integrating these models into change management practices. 
  • Use the Change Style Indicator to assess personal change styles, understand other styles, and work effectively with diverse styles to facilitate successful change processes. 

The Art of Decision Making: Tools and Techniques for Making Informed Decisions 

This one-day session empowers government professionals with the skills and knowledge needed to make effective decisions in a complex and fast-paced environment. The session covers problem-solving approaches to identify, analyze, and solve problems and explores different decision-making styles. Participants will be introduced to tools such as SWOT analysis, decision trees, and cost-benefit analysis to support decision-making processes. By the end of the course, participants will have a robust toolkit of strategies and techniques for informed and effective decision-making, problem-solving, and adapting decision-making styles to various contexts. 

Objectives: 

  • Identify, analyze, and solve problems using structured problem-solving approaches.
  • Implement tools such as SWOT analysis, decision trees, and cost-benefit analysis to enhance decision-making processes.
  • Adapt decision-making styles to different contexts and situations.
  • Encourage the sharing of best practices and collaborative approaches to decision-making within teams, promoting the use of analytical tools to support collective decision-making efforts. 

Outcomes:  

Upon completion of The Leadership Advantage course, participants will achieve the following outcomes:
